Cardiac Tests

Resting ECG

See Details

Evaluates the electrical activity of the heart at rest, shows abnormal arrhythmias and detects heart muscle damage.

Stress ECG

See Details

Evaluates the electrical activity of the heart, blood pressure and heart rate with exercise. It is a useful test to detect coronary artery disease, to determine safe levels of exercise following a heart attack or heart surgery, and also to monitor the response of blood pressure and heart rate to exercise. The stress ECG is performed on a Quinton ECG Treadmill system.

Echocardiogram

See Details

Evaluates the heart structures by the use of ultrasound, or high frequency sound wave, which create graphic images of the heart. The primary role of echocardiography in clinical practice is a non-invasive and cost-effective answer to the structure and function of the heart muscle and valves. The Echocardiogram is performed on the latest state of art Phillips iE33 Intelligent Echocardiography System which is a digital harmonic ultrasound system and provides accurate, high-resolution image detail.

Ambulatory ECG

See Details

Evaluates the electrical activity of the heart over 24-144 hours.

The ambulatory 24 Hour ECG is performed using the "Novacor Vista ECG Recorder" which measures the ECG on:

  1. Three continuous channels for up to 24-48 hours.

  2. Two channels up to 72 hours.

  3. One channel up to 144hours

The ECG is stored on a slot – in flash memory card, and can be read directly by "HolterSoft software" installed in the computer.

The Vista ECG recorder system weighs approximately 100gms and is attached to the patient with a single multi-lead cable connected to the ECG electrodes.

24 Hour Ambulatory Blood Pressure

See Details

Evaluates the blood pressure over 24 hours for the assessment of efficacy of anti-hypertensive management, or to establish a diagnosis of hypertension in a patient in whom office readings are not diagnostic.

The ambulatory 24 Hour BP is performed using the multimodal operational "Novacor Diasys Interga 11" which measures and records blood pressure in Oscillometric and Auscultatory modes. It measures systole, diastole, mean blood pressure and heart rate for up to 24hours.

The Diasys Interga II unit weighs approximately 130g and is attached to the patient’s cuff with a tubing system.

24 Hour ECG + 24 Hour Ambulatory Blood Pressure (2 in 1)

See Details

This is performed using the 24 -hour ambulatory "Novacor Duolter monitoring system". Combined in one unit: is a ECG holter and an ambulatory manometer synchronised by a shared internal clock. It has the capability to either record a continuous ECG using two channels, or the blood pressure for programmable periods, or both at the same time.

The Duolter unit weighs less than 300g, and contains the electronics and the pneumatic pump. The unit is attached to the patient via a rubber tube joined to the cuff and one multiwire cable connected to the electrodes of the ECG.

The detection of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea can also be carried out using the Vista 24 hour ambulatory ECG or the Duolter (24 ECG+BP)

Eight - Day Cardiac Event Monitor

See Details

Evaluates pathological electrocardiographic events over a period of eight days.

The eight - day cardiac event monitor is performed using the "Novacor R.Test Evolution", which is a miniature ambulatory ECG recorder and is capable of memorising the most significant pathological events (symptomatic or silent), as well as the patient’s continuous heart rate.

The system consists of a unit weighing about 40g, and by using a lightweight neck cable, which can be worn by the patient unobtrusively and without any discomfort. The R.Test Evolution is connected to the patient by a system of electrodes and a neck cable.

Cardiac events are memorised by the R.Test Evolution and then transferred by a decoder, to a computer for interpretation.

Pacemaker Check

See Details

The test is performed at regular intervals (6-12 months) on patients with "Dual" or "Single" chamber permanent pacemakers. This is to ensure proper lead function & battery status, or whenever patient has symptoms related to the pacemaker.

Lung Function Test

See Details

Lung function test evaluates how much air the lungs can hold, how quickly can the air move in and out of the lungs, and how well the lungs add oxygen to the blood and remove carbon-dioxide. The test helps to diagnose lung disease and measures the severity of lung problems that prevent normal breathing.

SPIROMETERY is the initial lung function test. Whereby a patients breathes into a mouthpiece attached to a "Spirometer".
