Dr Brian Clapp
Dr Clapp attended medical school in Sidney Sussex College Cambridge and University College London and completed his general medical training in various teaching hospitals around the capital. He was awarded a PhD by University of London into the links between inflammation and acute cardiac events; a continued active research interest. He completed specialist training in cardiology at the Heart and London Chest Hospitals and developed a particular interest in coronary and structural intervention.
He was appointed Consultant Cardiologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital in 2005. He provides a service in both general cardiology and specifically interventional cardiology. He has a specialist interest in hypertension (clinical and research), ischaemic heart disease and stroke prevention (including in divers). He has expertise in all areas of percutaneous coronary intervention, including the physiological and anatomical assessment of lesion severity, and the assessment and closure of atrial septal defects and patent foramen ovale.
