Eating Habits

  • An average woman can have up to 20g saturated fat a day
  • An average man can have up to 30g of saturated fat a day.
  • Less is even better, especially if you want to lose weight.

Rather than just dieting choose a healthy diet. If there is something you really enjoy, which is high in fat, remember once in a while may be permitted, but in small portions only.

Keep healthy with a good diet:

  • Choose reduced low or reduced fat foods
  • Replace saturated fats with mono or polyunsaturated fats.
  • Avoid full cream milk, swap it with semi or skimmed milk
  • Olive oil or low fat spreads instead of vegetable oil and butter
  • Eat five portions of fruit and vegetables everyday
  • Reduce salt intake
  • Increase the amount of fibre in your diet
  • Boost up Omega-3 fat intake from oily fish and repressed oil
  • Drink alcohol in moderation.
    • Keep within limits of no more than:
      • 14 units for women
      • 21 units for men.
  • Keep well hydrated with water and fluids:
    • 2.5 litres daily
    • 6-8 glasses daily.
