Doctor Francesca Ducci, MD, PhD, completed her medical education and postgraduate qualification in General Adult Psychiatry at the University of Pisa, Italy. Over the years she has developed a broad range of clinical and research expertise working in Italy, UK and US.
Dr Ducci has been working as psychiatrist for many years gaining a vast experience in the treatment of different types of mental illness encompassing anxiety Disorders (e.g. panic Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), Mood Disorders (e.g. Depression and Bipolar Illness) and Psychosis (e.g. Schizophrenia)
Dr Ducci has a special interest in Neuropsychiatry that includes the treatment of Functional Neurological Syndromes (or Conversion disorders) such as non-epileptic seizures. She is also interested in the management of mental health problems in patients who are also affected by neurological conditions (e.g. Epilepsy and Parkinson's disease).
Dr Ducci worked in multiple psychiatric services including the Early Intervention Unit for Psychosis (South London and Maudsley NHS trust), Home Treatment Team, Community Mental Health Team, and the Neuropsychiatric Department at St George’s Hospital (South West London & St George's Mental Health Trust).
Since 2013, Dr Ducci has been appointed as substantive Consultant Psychiatrist at South West London & St George's Mental Health Trust.
She also trained as a therapist in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) at the Cognitive Psychotherapy School in Rome, Italy
Dr Ducci started her research activity in 2004 working as postdoctoral visiting fellow at the National Institute of Health, (NIH) Bethesda, USA with Dr David Goldman. At NIH she focused her research interest on the genetic and environmental risk factors associated with addiction and personality disorders. As a result of her work she obtained a PhD in neurobiology of affective disorder in 2008 and published multiples article for international scientific journals.
In London, she has continued her research activity in the discovery of genetic and environmental factors mediating vulnerability to mental illness working as Clinical Lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry Kings College London with professor Prof Robin Murray.
Dr Ducci has BUPA and AXA consultant recognition.
