Dr. Jess McMicking

Jess McMicking is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with special interests in menstrual disorders and benign gynaecology, and high-risk obstetrics. She currently holds a Consultant post at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust in Central London.

Jess undertook the majority of her specialist training in Sydney, Australia. In 2017 she came to the renowned St Thomas’ Hospital in London for her advanced training. In 2019, she was awarded her Fellowship to the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Prior to medicine, Jess completed an undergraduate degree in Nutrition and Health Sciences. This has led her to become particularly passionate about nutrition in both pregnancy and gynaecology.

Jess strongly believes in basing your care on the latest medical research and guidelines. She plays an active role in research through publishing articles, as well as presenting at international conferences.

Jess is also very passionate about medical education for both undergraduate doctors and specialty trainees and is a very popular Educational Supervisor. Jess also recently founded a virtual platform during COVID-19 called ‘COVID Medical Education’ which provides nearly-daily lectures to medical students across the UK and Ireland. This has been one of Jess’ most successful educational endeavours to date, with over 1000 student members.

Jess is also committed to delivering quality improvement projects within the NHS. With her high levels of energy and enthusiasm, she always has numerous projects on the go which include streamlining the postnatal pathway for women with hypertension in pregnancy, enhanced recovery in elective caesarean sections, and improving efficiency in management plans for heavy menstrual bleeding.

Outside of medicine, Jess enjoys exercising with her husband, running for charities, any form of sunshine with her Antipodean heritage, and an old-fashioned Sunday roast with friends.
